about

Four track release of sound system ready 130 club weapons, teetering between the realms of broken techno, garage, funky, and dubstep; showcasing a mastery of low-end, complex but functional rhythmic percussion and interesting melodic tones and textures

A1. Youth: Acid style square lazer bass zaps combine in fine style with a broken beat style drums, providing a polished dance floor weapon that’s both sinister and fun.

A2. Claus: Dark pads and lunar aesthetics transcend into a peak time dubstep influenced wobble, with a coalescence of garage and techno drum-work keeping things rolling.

B1. Want to Get: Detroit style pads and dubby fx, meet arps, a chest rattling bassline that develops throughout the track and Jersey Club style meets UK techno drum patterns. The track achieves the fine balance between musicality, grit and bass weight that makes it an ideal candidate for the dance.

B2. Cobalt Driver: Smoked out, moody yet melodic, the release ends with a subbed out, stripped back roller, perfect for those late night, contemplative club moments.

SPD Artist Statement: Fundamentally dubstep was the thing that caught my ear and is the reason why I got into making and playing music, so I think everything I do has a reference back to that. I feel that's authentically me and there is something about the 'genre' (as an umbrella) rising, flourishing and then progressing in so many different wonderful guises and offshoots that really made sense to me. I liked the fact that 140 provided a template that people then oscillated around but you could still pull all of these different things together. I think that is why I generally try to make stuff consistently around 130- feel it's important to be able to thread sounds together and that gives you so much flex.
